Freecycling, what a great way to meet people at work! No need to meander on down to the water cooler to brush up on your small talk and complain about your boss. Now with Freecycle@Work new co-workers, separate teams and even different floor and office locations of people you would normally never meet. So is that it? Nope, with Freecycle@Work the socializing aspect isn’t their selling point. Actually, there isn’t a selling point. You basically use their app to give away your old items to co-workers that may be able to give them a new life. Kitchen supplies, an old office desk, books etc. You can even post ‘wanted’ items to collect for your local charity such as used clothes, shoes and can goods. The Freecycle Network is a global organization with over 7 million users engaged in the exchange of items for reuse rather than disposal.

Check it out for yourself and tell us here at Trash Wizard what you think! Freecycle@Work

Going Green is all the fashion nowadays…or is it? Most people recycle but are unaware of the numerous benefits it entails. Whether you’re placing old soup cans in the cities recycling bins or donating your worn, yet perfectly usable items you no longer need you undoubtedly cut costs to transfer stations and man hours used to discard of these belongings.

Think of it like this- Your old T.V. that still works could benefit a number of people who cannot afford to purchase a new television themselves. By cutting disposal costs you inevitably save the environment and allow those without the means to purchase new household goods a chance to reuse your unwanted items.

Pretty good idea huh? By raising awareness on the local level each person can play their part in keeping our planet healthy and sustainable. So spread the word and try to use those unwanted goods to your advantage.

For more information on donating, recycling, reusing or reducing your carbon footprint contact Trash Wizard directly at www.TrashWizard.com. Call us at 1-888-55-WIZARD (94927). Are you a Worcester resident? Call 508-425-4713. Feel free to submit any correspondence to Info@trashWizard.com or submit your written thoughts to Trash Wizard at 210 Park Avenue Suite 109 Worcester MA 01609

If you have lived at your current residence for some time, you have probably accumulated many items. If you haven’t used items for six months to a year, you probably do not need them.

The old saying “One person’s trash is another person’s treasure.” Have a garage sale, to reduce what you pack. Donate unsold items to a local church or charity. Get donation receipts and the value of the items donated to help offset your taxes: file under ‘Charitable Donations!’

Check grocery and area stores for used boxes rather than buying them. Many managers will be happy to give up their used boxes.

Use luggage for packing as well as plastic containers instead of Styrofoam peanuts. Towels, blankets, sheets and clothing are also good packing materials. Pack each box by room and mark each box accordingly. This will make the unpacking much easier.

Remember – contact your city or town for the proper disposal of hazardous paints, stains and electronic equipment. A licensed junk removal company has the means of disposing of these items properly.

Also, consider shipping your furniture and boxes by train if moving a long distance. Trains are more eco-friendly having lower fuel cost and emissions. Many truck rental companies provide biodiesel trucks to help reduce your carbon footprint. If using your own vehicle for the move, have it tuned up and check the suspension. This will aid in conserving fuel.

And remember, “Reuse, Reduce and Recycle!”

Trash Wizard was a proud and honored sponsor, transporting nearly 4,000 pairs of shoes from the Auburn store to the Worcester store on Park Ave. Both friends and family of Jamie and Alex were at both stores working diligently under the sweltering sun.

Alex coordinated the event, setting up an assembly line of sorts: counting, boxing, taping, marking and loading boxes of shoes into the bed of Trash Wizard’s truck. The event went off without a hitch and at noon time cold sodas and pizza were presented to the volunteers on behalf of Jamie and Alex for their continued support.

The goal of 100,000 shoes collected has reached the 1/3 mark! Trash Wizard will keep readers updated on Jamie and Alex’s progress. The deadline is March of 2010, so clean out your closets and back halls and help support an amazing cause!

Susan Champeny’s quest for old plastic resin chairs has paid off! Her first major sculpture, ‘Chair Arch 22′ is now on display in the pond at Elm Park in Worcester closest to Highland St. and Park Ave. Sue will have an ongoing need for replacement chairs, as her sculpture may suffer damage while on display until October.

For Susan’s next project she is looking for an abundance of red plastic plates and bowls for a sculpture called ‘Red Totems’. ‘Red Totems’ is currently on the corner of Russell and Highland St. Sue will be doing a workshop on August 9th and 14th, showing Worcester residents how to make the totems using the red plastic plates and bowls.

Trash Wizard was fortunate to play a small part in Susan Champeny’s project by donating chairs that would have otherwise ended up at the dump. If anyone is looking to arrange a pick-up or delivery of used chairs for Sue, please feel free to contact Chris Bender at: 508-320-7528 or contact Trash Wizard directly to schedule a pick-up.

How many times do we walk by that old pair of shoes on our way out the door? Alexander Diaz of the UPS store at 800 Main street in Holden, Massachusetts has big plans for those forgotten shoes. Diaz, along with his business partner Jamie Salisbury have joined forces with ‘Soles 4 Souls’, an organization based in Tennessee that gained notoriety during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Alex and Jamie’s goal is to collect 100,000 pairs of shoes by May 2010. So far they’ve managed to collect over 5,000 pairs of shoes that will eventually be donated to Soles for Souls. These shoes will be spread through out the world, giving less fortunate people a luxury we often take for granted–wearing shoes.

“Every single person in the US has a pair of those they don’t need,” Diaz says. “I want that pair of shoes.” Diaz is a man on a mission! If you’d like to help a great cause at no cost, feel free to donate any shoes to the UPS store at 800 Main Street in Holden or contact Trash Wizard by booking online. Trash Wizard will coordinate a time and place to pick up your old, unwanted shoes and deliver them to the UPS store in Holden. Trash Wizard’s goal is to drastically reduce waste by recycling or reusing as much junk as we can, thus reducing the worlds carbon footprint.

Drop off shoes with wear left in them at one of three UPS stores: 800 Main St., Holden; 482 Southbridge St., Auburn; or 210 Park Ave., Worcester. Call Diaz at 508-721-9604 to volunteer or for more information.
