Planet Aid Drop Boxes

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Trash Wizard Junk Removal will be hosting a Planet Aid box for the convenient use of all residents on the West Side of Worcester.

Planet Aid is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of people in the US, as well as, in developing countries.  They provide development, relief aid, and environmental services throughout the world.

Their activities in the US consist of recycling and clothing collection, environmental education and fundraising and they also form partnerships with development projects abroad.

You’ve probably seen the ubiquitous yellow boxes in parking lots and on business properties throughout the state.  Planet Aid currently has more than 10,000 collection boxes from Massachusetts to Missouri.  These clothes are collected then resold to raise funds for development projects such as supporting schools, building health programs and improving HIV/AIDS prevention in Africa, Asia, and Central America

If anyone knows a company that would like to host a box here is some more useful information:

- Hosting a box is FREE

- Planet Aid empties the boxes as often as needed (Even daily in some cases!)

- If you decide you no longer want it Planet Aid will remove it within a week.

- If valuables are accidentally placed in the box Planet Aid will send a diver to open the box.

- If there is anything lying outside the box Planet Aid will remove it immediately.

- These boxes are fire proof and inaccessible from the outside

stART on the Street 2009

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Trash Wizard Junk Removal was a proud sponsor of ‘stART on the Street 2009‘! The turn out was great, the weather beautiful and the art work was amazing! Alot of local companies came out to set up shop, including Jumpin’ Juice and Java, Casella’s and Eri Design was working the crowd handing out flyers.

Eric Sturtevant of SturtevantIllustrations.com was gracious enough to allow me to take his picture alongside some of his artwork (which I found to be one of the best at the event!) and the staff from Jumpin Juice and Java whipped me up a tasty smoothie and posed for the camera as well.

All in all, the day turned out great! Good music, amazing art and fresh food? Who could ask for more on a Sunday?

UPS Store and 'Soles4Souls'

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Jamie and Alex, owners of the UPS stores in Auburn, Worcester and Holden, had an amazing turn out today!  Trash Wizard Junk Removal was on site, along with Jackie Brush of 96.1 WSRS and over 20 volunteers.  So far, the grand total of shoes collected for ‘Soles4Souls’ has exceeded 30,000 pair!

Trash Wizard was a proud and honored sponsor, transporting nearly 4,000 pairs of shoes from the Auburn store to the Worcester store on Park Ave.  Both friends and family of Jamie and Alex were at both stores working diligently under the sweltering  sun.

Alex coordinated the event, setting up an assembly line of sorts: counting, boxing, taping, marking and loading boxes of shoes into the bed of Trash Wizard’s truck.  The event went off without a hitch and at noon time cold sodas and pizza were presented to the volunteers on behalf of Jamie and Alex for their continued support.

The goal of 100,000 shoes collected has reached the 1/3 mark!  Trash Wizard will keep readers updated on Jamie and Alex’s progress.  The deadline is March of 2010, so clean out your closets and back halls and help support an amazing cause!

Art in the Park! 'Chair Arch 22' and 'Red Totem'

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Susan Champeny’s quest for old plastic resin chairs has paid off!  Her first major sculpture, ‘Chair Arch 22′ is now on display in the pond at Elm Park in Worcester closest to Highland St. and Park Ave.   Sue will have an ongoing need for replacement chairs, as her sculpture may suffer damage while on display until October.

For Susan’s next project she is looking for an abundance of red plastic plates and bowls for a sculpture called ‘Red Totems’.  ‘Red Totems’ is currently on the corner of Russell and Highland St.  Sue will be doing a workshop on August 9th and 14th, showing Worcester residents how to make the totems using the red plastic plates and bowls.

Trash Wizard was fortunate to play a small part in Susan Champeny’s project by donating chairs that would have otherwise ended up at the dump.  If anyone is looking to arrange a pick-up or delivery of used chairs for Sue, please feel free to contact Chris Bender at: 508-320-7528 or contact Trash Wizard directly to schedule a pick-up.
