How many times do we walk by that old pair of shoes on our way out the door? Alexander Diaz of the UPS store at 800 Main street in Holden, Massachusetts has big plans for those forgotten shoes. Diaz, along with his business partner Jamie Salisbury have joined forces with ‘Soles 4 Souls’, an organization based in Tennessee that gained notoriety during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Alex and Jamie’s goal is to collect 100,000 pairs of shoes by May 2010. So far they’ve managed to collect over 5,000 pairs of shoes that will eventually be donated to Soles for Souls. These shoes will be spread through out the world, giving less fortunate people a luxury we often take for granted–wearing shoes.
“Every single person in the US has a pair of those they don’t need,” Diaz says. “I want that pair of shoes.” Diaz is a man on a mission! If you’d like to help a great cause at no cost, feel free to donate any shoes to the UPS store at 800 Main Street in Holden or contact Trash Wizard by booking online. Trash Wizard will coordinate a time and place to pick up your old, unwanted shoes and deliver them to the UPS store in Holden. Trash Wizard’s goal is to drastically reduce waste by recycling or reusing as much junk as we can, thus reducing the worlds carbon footprint.
Drop off shoes with wear left in them at one of three UPS stores: 800 Main St., Holden; 482 Southbridge St., Auburn; or 210 Park Ave., Worcester. Call Diaz at 508-721-9604 to volunteer or for more information.
