Did you know that your home could be harboring large amounts of mercury? Old paints, clothes, microwaves, light bulbs, toys, pesticides, thermostats, batteries, T.V.’s and computer monitors may contain mercury depending on their age. Paints before 1992 and pesticides before 1994 most likely contain mercury.
Mercury poisoning can result in several diseases, including acrodynia (pink disease), Hunter-Russell syndrome, and Minamata disease. Symptoms typically include sensory impairment (vision, hearing, speech), disturbed sensation and a lack of coordination. The type and degree of symptoms exhibited depend upon the individual toxin, the dose, and the method and duration of exposure.
